What Should a Business Website Include? A Practical Checklist
A simple checklist of the pages, details and features every small business website needs — and a few things you can safely skip.
A business website does not need to be complicated. It needs to answer the questions a customer has before they contact you — and make contacting you effortless. Use this checklist when planning a new website or reviewing your current one.
The essential pages
- Home page — who you are, who you serve and what you offer, in the first screen.
- Services or products — what you do, explained in your customers' words.
- About — your story, experience and the people behind the business.
- Contact — phone, WhatsApp, email, enquiry form and, if customers visit you, address, map and timings.
For a very small business, all of this can fit on one well-organised page.
Contact options that work on mobile
Most visitors will be on a phone. Make sure there is a tap-to-call button, a WhatsApp button and a short enquiry form. Test them yourself. A form that sends enquiries nowhere is worse than no form at all.
Trust signals
Customers want to know you are genuine. Helpful trust signals include clear business details, real photos of your work or premises, genuine testimonials shared with permission, and any certifications or registrations you actually hold. Never use fake reviews or stock photos pretending to be your team.
SEO basics
Each page should have a unique title and description, one clear main heading, descriptive image text and a logical URL. These basics help search engines understand your pages. They do not guarantee rankings, but they are the foundation for everything else.
Things you can usually skip
- Auto-playing videos and heavy animations that slow the site down
- A "News" page you will not update
- Long lists of every possible service you might offer someday
- Pop-ups that appear before visitors have read anything
Before launch
Check every page on your phone, click every button, submit the form and confirm the enquiry arrives. Make sure the site loads on HTTPS and that your contact details are correct everywhere.
